## From invoicing to take-home, step by step

- Revenue excluding VAT: the VAT isn't yours, you pay it over each quarter.
- Minus your deductible business expenses.
- Minus the autónomo quota, which is also an expense and depends on your band.
- That's your net income. Minus 7% for hard-to-document expenses (up to €2,000 a year), it's your income tax base.
- Minus IRPF: a progressive scale, with the first €5,550 (the personal allowance) tax-free.
- What's left, divided by 12, is your monthly take-home.

## What this calculator simplifies

It uses the 2026 state scale and your region's, each with its own personal allowance (the Basque Country and Navarre, with their own foral tax, aren't included). It leaves out child allowances, low-income reductions and regional credits, which usually lower the tax.

## FAQ

**Is VAT part of my income?**
No. The VAT you charge goes to the tax agency each quarter; your income is the net amount of your invoices.

**Is withholding money I lose?**
No: it's an advance on your income tax, deducted in your annual return.
